The Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 was built to compete in the European Touring Car Championship back in the late 1980’s. Ford had to build 500 (hence the name) to be released to the general public so that the RS500 was eligible for the series.
Costing around £20,000, £4,000 more than the standard Sierra Cosworth, back in 1987 you could expect delivery on August 1st.
392 where sold in Black, 52 in Moonstone Blue and 52 in Fords legendary Diamond White. Since blacks where the highs numbers produced expect them to be slightly cheaper than a white or Moonstone.
It was a hit on the tracks and ran circles around BMW’s racer the M3 thanks to the extra 150-200BHP.
Watching any video of these beasts in action and you’ll soon see how fast they are often hitting 140MPH.
It’s estimated that half of the original RS500’s are still around in running order today. Some of the Race models are still around mainly the Texco’s and Labertts liveried models.
If your looking to purchase one then expect to pay £12,000 for one that’s slightly rough around the edges and up to £25,000 for a minter.
